VETERAN’S DAY PARADE

flagIf you missed it, the Walla Walla Veterans Day Parade was a classic-five fire trucks, one cement mixer, one cherry picker, one subcompact sporting a banner "Friends of Gays and Lesbians," lots of old guys on motorcycles, plenty of Model T's, and some proud veterans. The Touchet High School Marching Band led the parade. They played "Louie, Louie." I love this place.

I have not lived in Walla Walla for many years but it will always be my home town. We get back to visit about once or twice a year to see dear friends and have watched in amazement at the changes. Where once there were pea fields, now their are vineyards. Too bad, in a way. Those pea pits were great parking spots for the teenagers. LOL! Still, with all the changes, the feeling is the same. Love coming into town from Lowden in the Spring & smelling the smells that only Walla Walla has. Always have to stop into the City Zoo to see our good friend Ron and hope to see Elaine too. Our favorite eating stops are the Ice Burg & Blue Mountain, for their sandwiches smothered in chips. Kinda sad last time when they weren't served on paper plates.

Must give praise to Gary & Nancy Figgens for starting all of this. Back in the early 70's, Gary decided to grow grapes to make wine and everyone thought he was nuts. I ran into him a number of years ago and reminded him of that. Gary said he is the one laughing now, all the way to the bank. Good job, Gary & Nancy and hope you will accept my apology.

Enough said, except I do love Walla Walla and hope to come back someday in my retirement years.
