Winter Chocolate Delights

Ever wondered what an oak tree would taste like in a truffle? How about chili pepper? Mango citrus? Lavender? I'll be honest and say I never did, but the answers are delicious, strangely sweet, luscious and perfect, respectively. Just in case you were wondering.
With the cooler weather settling in as the official end of autumn acclimates us for a Walla Walla winter, many minds turn their thoughts to indoor activities. The Walla Walla Valley offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor entertainment in the warmer months - farmer's market, an aviary, the fair, multiple parks, a gorgeous Main street for perusing on foot - but when winter arrives, it's time to evaluate options for indoor diversions.
One of my favourites is something I alluded to in one of my autumn blogs: Petits Noirs, the little chocolate shop in Milton-Freewater.
Milton-Freewater is a small town just across the border in Oregon; its downtown area is about a 15-minute drive from Walla Walla's city center, and a straight shot on Highway 11. While the town regularly seems rather quiet and dull, there are hidden treasures to be found there, and Petits Noirs is one of them.
I wasn't joking when I said oak-infused truffles were delicious. There are many more unexpected flavours available for your palate's enjoyment, and if it's particularly chilly when you stop by the brightly coloured shop on the main drag, ask for a sample of their decadently rich hot chocolate. If the truffles don't hit the spot, I highly recommend the dark chocolate covered espresso toffee.
Welcome to the Walla Walla Valley. We know how to entertain...surprise, surprise.
